The confidence and support from a global company such as Heinemann Scorpio as a majority shareholder will allow Gastro to drive the business forward, access a bigger client base and bring considerable growth.

London Glamour - Quaglinos
London Glamour at its best!
Quaglinos has it all. The stunning décor is there to be fully enjoyed, and delivers that wonderful feeling of knowing you are somewhere ‘special’ - hence you feel ‘special’.
The Gin Joint, (themed this summer) although a lovely bar to sit at and enjoy the surrounding vista, didn’t serve what you expect to be the best in gin and tonics. Gin and tonics can be a work of art these days with many different inclusions to enhance the particular gin profile – we had two different gins both served in high ball tumbler, with lime, we could have been in the Rose and Crown!! Disappointing.
That’s the only gripe. The rest of the evening? Absolutely delicious…
La Torreta, Dalt Vila, Ibiza
If you are still lucky enough to be enjoying your holidays and just happen to venture onto the wonderful white isle of Ibiza, it is worth strolling up to Dalt Vila, Upper Town to a delightful fusion Mediterranean restaurant by the name of La Torreta. Here you can sit outside and watch the street entertainers, enjoying superb service, fabulous quite simple dishes and finish off with a some delightful late night shopping! Does it get any better!

I had the absolute pleasure of a couple of delicious days in the beautiful city of Barcelona. Enjoyed the following restaurants so much want to share. First port of call, a superb lunch at Chez Coco Rotisserie. Originally a bridal house, it was converted into this stunning restaurant, including a delightful garden. Just lovely.
Dinner – Roco Moo @ Hotel Omm. Elegant and surprising, an exciting twist on Catalan cooking, new tastes and concepts made it very special. The innovative, sophisticated, modern hotel is the home to this superb Michelin star, very creative restaurant, where not everything is as it appears!
My real favourite for all the finest Spanish reasons was BAR MUT, probably the best tapas bar I have every had the pleasure of enjoying. Scallops to die for, beautiful seafood, very special dish of Potato rosti, egg, prawns and pine nuts, fab staff and atmosphere. It delivered and more …

The Park, Bruges
In my opinion the definition of a 'good restaurant’ is the overall experience. Starting with the welcome, followed by the setting, service, ambiance, and of course the culinary enjoyment. All elements must work well together to really achieve the ultimate pleasure and lasting memory of a great evening.
The Park Restaurant is a beautiful house transformed into a dining palace with personality. Originally a very elegant home (until 50 years ago) it has been in the hands of the current owners - two talented brothers - since 1989. The multiple reception rooms are all beautifully furnished to create a suite of grand dining rooms.
Service is impeccable, both personable, informative and of course attentive. The personality of Axel - front of house - is very much part of this. For me the exciting and well selected 'Gin List’ is a must to be enjoyed, served with a delicious citrus ‘blue' tonic which was a first for us, makes for a perfect start to a lovely evening.
The culinary element certainly does not disappoint - far from it.

Everything was just lovely, very traditional French, executed to perfection. I truly enjoyed the Cheese Gratin with Brittany Scallops. Apart from being absolutely delicious, the mini crescent of beautifully crisp puff pastry accompaniment, when eaten with the rich Gratin, complimented totally - with a lovely, light, buttery crisp bite. Superb.
So if you happen to find yourself in the beautiful city of Bruges, please book a evening in this delightful restaurant. You will be left with a truly lovely memory!

24th June is a Spanish holiday In celebration for S.Juan, saint of miracles. This island gives a beautiful festival the night before with dancing, bonfires, fireworks and all things noisy - families, hipsters and us unsuspecting tourists celebrate into the early hours of the holiday.

Foodies Festival - Brighton
This Bank holiday weekend, Brighton played host to the 'Foodies Festival'. Set on the Hove lawns the festival had a strong following of varying 'Street Food Vendors' from around the Globe, including Hungary (think this a first for me in this arena) serving their national favourite of 'Goulash', along with some strange-looking sausages.
These days are always fun - whatever the weather! With vehicles as creative and fun as the food they were serving, see for yourself. My favourite - two BBQ's built within a VW Beetle Convertible!
Gastro Girls Do Hamburg
Exhibiting at the World Travel Catering Exhibition WTCE was our reason and absolute pleasure for being in Hamburg.
In true Gastro style - leading not following - our stand stood out, gaining a tremendous amount of compliments and smiles as although small, it was fun and quirky, with presence.
Designed on the same principle as our products - to be as good on the outside as on the inside - it displayed our beautifully packaged afternoon tea cakes and savoury hot eat products with ease and personality.
Our days were full of talking, laughter and tasting. Meeting customers and friends old and new. Our evenings continued in the same vein but with the addition of an accompanying tipple and dance!
Hamburg is a stunning cosmopolitan gastronomique City, truly worth a visit if eating, walking, biking, architecture and enjoying watching the world and fantastic cars go by is your thing that is...

I had the ultimate pleasure last week of dining at the very fashionable and stylish Chiltern Firehouse.
On arrival the place was buzzing with an array of interesting looking people: indoor-hat-wearing men (must be creatives) gorgeous woman and sophisticated older men - who where all no doubt very important film directors and the like - and smartly presented staff from every direction.
Having spent half an hour propped up at the end of the relatively small bar (as no room anywhere else) we were led to our table. Lucky enough to be positioned just under the kitchen, and seated next to the owner! I was in prime position to get a great view of the rest of the restaurant and clientele, to fully breath in and absorb the atmosphere - which really is part of your evening here.
Service was absolutely faultless, starting with a lovely greeting from a charming young chap, dressed individually in a white suit - and an extensive knowledge of the menu. First, a pre-starter of the Crispy Cod Skins and the infamous Crab-stuffed doughnuts.
These were followed by a young, trendy but knowledgeable Sommelier popping by to help with the choice of wine. The lovely Portuguese Head Chef Nuno Mendeswas charming, welcoming and happy to talk, even during prime service.
Then came the Steak Tartare; wow was this superb. Served with a fiery chipotle & firehouse hot sauce and very thin crisp toasts - once the tender diced beef was mixed with the accompaniments - it just blew your mind.
Our mains: consisting of the Welsh Lamb, so delicately infused with split mint oil, and the Wild Sea Bass with grilled romaneso & green pistachios. Superb.
The pièce de résistance was the stunning Panna Cotta as shown below, the caramelised cinnamon topping and fresh apple interior sent it above the taste expectation richter scale.
On leaving we had to go via the back door (we were told) to avoid paparazzi outside, to a waiting restaurant limo - all very Hollywood - but just the end of what was the most enjoyable evening.
La Bodega Negra
Authentic Mexican street food served to you in a funky, happening basement restaurant in Soho. Strongly recommend a visit here if you are ready to have some fun and wash away the January blues. Starting with a delicious House Margarita then hit the extensive menu.
Great selection of strong tasting dishes, served in artistically in a rustic fashion, by plenty of good looking staff - so no issue on waiting too long for anything! We had a vast selection of dishes, too many to remember all (especially following the Margaritas) but do remember an array of Tacos, Tostaditos followed by mains including Oxtail Enchiladas, Slow Roast Lamb Babacoa, Habareno Soft Shell Crab and yummy Pork Belly Mezcal & Salsa Arbol.
Great tunes from the resident DJ, along with fab after-dinner cocktails in the bar finishes a fun eve perfectly!

New Year Cheer
A day in the lovely Royal Tunbridge Wells:
Funny old month January, especially the beginning where we are all getting ourselves back into gear, are broke and often not eating what we would normally choose, boring!
On Saturday I had the great pleasure in not venturing too far and visiting the lovely old town of Tunbridge Wells. Set in the beautiful Kent countryside, it offers a vast selection of independent very established shops, quaint coffee shops and international restaurants. From global to local, a wide variety of international and English cuisines on offer including; Nepalese, Bangladeshi, Spanish, Japanese, Italian, Thai and French, amongst its beautiful cobbled streets.
Recommend: a visit to the beautifully full kitchen shop in the Pentiles where I would defy anyone to not find the key utensil to make that important dish and more!
It may take you off track as far as not spending and diets are concerned, but I can assure you it will give you a purely positive lift in this dull month, without having to travel too far!
Festive London Sights
Having had a delightful week of eating in London, we couldn't help but enjoy Christmas London style...
Last week we took off to the deliciously warm Abu Dhabi to take in SIAL Middle East, The Mercury Awards, and the very well hosted Etihad Cocktail Party.
Having watched Lewis Hamilton win F1 live whilst in the air, we landed to the buzz of Formula 1 everywhere. Being the foodies we are our first stop was SIAL Middle East, where we took in some interesting concepts. Including a shawarma made of various layers of Turkish delight, chocolate shoes...
Along with some outstanding displays from the La Cuisine by SIAL - where over 650 chefs compete for four trophy categories including Best Cuisinier/Best Pastry Chef/Best Artist & Best Arab National.
It's just amazing what can be done with food these 'innovative' days!
London Town never ceases to impress and we live here! Be it with some of the top restaurants of the world or on trend 'dirty' food eateries, as well as wonderful sights such as the Poppies at the Tower. Whatever it is we do it so well.
We have kick started our festivities with a superb lunch just off Carnaby Street in the West End. Walking down the trendy street, you are greeted by what I can only describe as the most fitting funky Christmas lights and dec's I have seen to date.
Half way down Carnaby Street there is a small avenue called Kingly Court, take this and you will walk into this gem of an array of buzzy bars and restaurants to suit every palette, seating inside or out whatever the weather. Our delicious long lunch took place at Whyte & Brown, where we were looked after extremely well by the lovely Chef Paul. The following dishes were every bit as delicious as they look....
Culinary Delights of beautiful Vienna
Last week we headed off to this lovely city, staying in the very traditional hotel Stefanie which is over 400 years of age, the oldest in Vienna. Located within 10 minutes walk from the stunning St. Stephens Cathedral. For our first evening we took ourselves off the splendidly gastronomique Do & Co Restaurant and trendy Bar, overlooking this magnificent Cathedral.
Food was five star as you would expect, good enough even for a very famous British tennis player who happened to be next to us, who went onto win the Vienna Open on Sunday! Just shows how very important it is to eat well of course!
Our second night we were very fortunate to be taken to a fantastic family owned restaurant situated just outside of Vienna on the Donau - again a beautiful but different setting. Here we were served the very best of dishes, Austrian style.
It is always good to judge a restaurant on a dish you have sampled in many places around the world. We can honestly say we both had the best Beef Carpaccio ever, just completely melted in the mouth. Mains were equally enjoyable... many thanks to Daniel and Jasmin for taking us and Sonntag for his dishes, and company - not forgetting the Steininger sparkling Sauvignon Blanc. Ummmm

I had the absolute pleasure of attending the second delicious very glamorous 'Food Fashion Show' on Thursday served from the stunning kitchen in Heston.
Wonderful dishes from around the globe, including Bunny Chow, Sea Foraged Vegetable Salad, Japanese Pizza (my total favourite), Boerie Roll, Duck and Ball and the delightful Macanini, along with sweet options of Sweet Street, Paleo Cheesecake, Fro Yo. Not an evening to be watching the waistline...

What joy to be here... sitting in this stunning open air restaurant positioned on the beautiful bay of Talamanca, views across the bay to the old town Ibiza. Eating as exquisite as you would expect in such a venue with dishes including (as shown); King Prawn Tempura with wasabi foam, Pollo Payes a la thai Ensalada, Bacalao Negro Salvaje, Mirin, Sake & Miso. Curry Verde de Pollo Payes.
Washed down with a couple of bottles of Rioja Reserva, along with funky tunes from the resident DJ....
THE JOCKEY CLUB, SES SALINAS
Set on the paradisiac beach of crystalline turquoise water and white sand hidden from the world in the dunes sits one of, if not the original Beach Club of Ibiza, established in 1993 - The Jockey Club.
Swim, or moor up in the bay on your yacht before you decide to take lunch. Enter the funky Jockey Club restaurant / bar where you can enjoy the best of foods in bare feet and in your bikini. Dishes here are top of class typical Spanish style, squid, clams in green sauce, avocado, sweet tomato and mozzarella or choose from the specials of the day which are visually and culinarily stunning.
As famous for its legendary music as much as its position, cocktails and delicious dishes...
The simple life...
Set on the rocks on the very edge of the Talamanca bay is a little green beach hut that serves very simply off the BBQ an extensive range of very freshly caught fish, no choice in the accompaniment - just buttery cold potato, and green salad, the plastic chairs wobble on the rocks - inches away from the sea crashing. Only sound here is the chatter of voices and the sound of the sea. Simple and oh so wonderful.

We had the absolute pleasure of completing what turned out to be a very social afternoon with the select team of old and new industry friends, in a sumptious dinner at the sophisticated 'Kitchen W8' restaurant.

Simplicity at its best ...
Churros - queued up on Sunday morning to enjoy these fresh from the hot oil, life doesn't get much better!
Rustic Lamb...very simple but oh so delicious, lamb falling off the bone, so tender, served with chunky roasted potatoes and veg. Washed down with a beautiful Rioja.
Monday morning pastries delivered fresh from back of van.
Wafer thin disc coated one side in chocolate.
Chunk of crisp pastry topped in cinnamon and sugar - just like the crispy bit on Bread pudding! Deelicious.

Global GASTRO nomique at the Alpha LSG Food Fashion Show
Last night we have the absolute pleasure of attending the Food Fashion Show hosted by Alpha LSG at their stunning new kitchen in Heston.
Specialities served from around the world, in a unique form of presentation. Our favourites included the delightful 'Scotch Eggs' cooked to perfection from Europe, Asian - Faux Pho, Ceviche Tacos from the Americas, delightful Beta-Waffle from Africa, and the meaty sausage rolls from Australasia.

March has seen the gastronomique indulgence of delicious dishes from some superb London restaurants, including the traditional established buzzy Italian 'Cecconi's' in Soho, highly recommend the 'Crab Ravioli'!
'34' in Mayfair, offers probably the best sashimi I have ever eaten, some lovely simple dishes cooked and presented to absolute perfection.
'Hakassan' in Mayfair, for a late night funky Chinese.
Away from London, Sunset at Watergate Bay 'Jamie's', takes some beating, especially this time of year! Roll on April, with plenty more evenings to be enjoyed .... first stop Hamburg!

New Brioche Launch
This month has seen the launch of our lovely hot brioche made specifically with First Great Western Trains, high in provenance of the West Country with inclusion of age old Vale of Camelot Cheddar and rich Tracklements Onion Marmalade. Delicious served hot!
Cuppie Cake Celebrations
During a recent trial with an American carrier we were approached by a soon to-be-bride to make our lovely Cuppie Cakes, sampled on the airline on a trip to New York, for her Wedding Favours. Brides only ever want the best for their big day!
The wedding takes place at the end of this month, with Chocolate Cuppie Cakes, we wish the happy couple all the very best for the future xx
ITCA Mercury Awards
This week Jacqui was fortunate enough to be on the ITCA Mercury Awards judging panel. There were some brilliant participating entries from all over the world, as far afield as the USA, Thailand, Russia, China, and even outer Mongolia. Our home turf didn’t let us down though, with the judges viewing some fantastic entries from the UK and our European neighbours too.
With the judging now finished, it will soon be time to celebrate at the awards ceremony next month in Abu Dhabi, on the 25th November at the ITCA Gala Dinner in the Shangri-la Hotel. If you would like to celebrate innovation in the industry with us you can book tickets here.

Monte Carlo calls! Jacqui’s heading to Nice to soak up the September sun and sample local cuisine. After all, travelling is how we search for fresh new flavours and fusions, developing recipes with a unique Gastro twist to create something innovative and delicious. A trip to Paris this time last year inspired the creation of our blossoming Brioche collection, which led in turn to the invention of an exclusive West Country-themed recipe for First Great Western trains - more exciting info to come on this very soon!
